Second Megalog

Hello friends,

I have recently been making lots of tweaks and additions to the game, and I would like to show them off.

Tweaks and Fixes:

  • Building: the building pieces snap together better, and Gable pieces were added. A stinky result of me remodeling the build pieces is that your structures may have rotated 90 degrees. (This is the same warning from a previous log, so if you already fixed your house you don't have to worry ☺)
  • Resource Capping: the world resources like trees, rocks, dirt, sand, etc. now all get capped, so your world won't lag as much anymoreThis also means there isn't an awkward lag spike in between day, rain, and night cycle.
  • Creature Behavior: Animals and enemies have updated behavior so that they animate, attack, and feel like you're actually fighting something.
  • Fertilizer Saving: There was an issue when saving your game where the fertilizer would disappear if the crop had grown. This bug has been fixed, and now you won't waste your precious fertilizer.
  • Day Length: Day times were increased slightly to six minutes per day and night and four minutes of rain time. This means the total time per day is 16 minutes.
  • Player Movement: Instead of directly changing position every frame, the player movement uses physics so that collisions and movement feels much smoother.
  • Armor Changes: Armor pieces give you different amounts so that damage makes sense.
  • Fall Damage: Fall damage was tweaked to make sense and work 100% of the time.
  • Main Menu Previews: Small little creature previews in the main menu for fun.
  • Enemy Remodeling: The enemies are 3D and fit better into the environment, instead of looking like demo assets.
  • Reach Length Shortened: The reach length was shortened so that interactions make more sense.
  • Water Count: Amount of water able to be collected after each rain cycle increased.
  • Fog AddedSmall shroud of fog to make the world look, uh, better?
  • Workbench Recycling: If you have accidentally placed a number of workbenches, or just want the wood back, now you can turn a workbench back into four wood.

Ok... Those were all of the bug fixes and tweaks.

Now we get to talk about the fun additions:

Pigments

Here are all of the pigment colors. These have their own recipe in the book and you use them to paint things like walls, floors, ceilings, workbenches, kilns, etc. This picture is leaving out Ink which can be used like a pigment to paint things black.

Warning: I apologize if everything looked like it was painted black in your world after loading. If you save your world you should be able to find and replace every occurrence of r, g, b, and a in the file to 1.

This is a photo of the eight colors being painted onto some walls. It also showcases the Gable piece with the ceiling. You can now make good smooth ceilings and wall pieces for them.

The next additions are a collection of new tools you can use:

Binoculars

Use the binoculars to zoom in on the area you are looking at

Backpack

Use the backpack as an extra 12 inventory spaces wherever you are. Every backpack uses the same inventory.

Fishing Net

Is now required to catch fish. Fish behavior improved also.

Green Record

A new song has been added as the Green Record

Hover to Discover

While inside the recipe book, you can hover over items and discover what they are

Interactivators

I added a new item that interacts with things for you. This means they can harvest crops, harvest beehives, open doors, and activate beacons. Since they are interacted with to activate, that means they are activated by other Interactivators. This quirk allows you to chain them and form circuits.

One application of them is to harvest and plant my farm

(I intend on adding a User block that gets fed items to interact with them e.g. planting seeds, fertilizing crops, watering crops, etc.)

Beacons were updated so that, as long as the player doesn't have a beacon synched, interacting with them will teleport the player to it. This means that if you get an Interactivator to interact with a beacon, it will teleport you from wherever. Introducing my teleportation system:

This is where the line starts

That connects to a line that spans to my shed by the lake

This is where the line ends.

Because I have to quickly replace the beacon before I teleport, this system could be improved.

In fact it's a good time to mention that another quirk about Interactivators, is that they have color bias.

An Interactivator that is left uncolored will activate every other one in it's radius. However, Interactivators of a specific color will only activate other ones of their color.

There are two other pieces as well:

The Delay waits for a longer amount of time before sending the signal, and the Clock sends regular signals once activated.

These are all of the activator pieces for now, but there will probably be more to come. Some devices can certainly be made.

I hope you have fun, because I sure did ☺
